Que Origin | Etude House | C20 Vitamin C |
1. Que Origin Lavender Shower Wash
The scent is the first thing that stole my heart. This lavender bath wash smells divine, or at least to me haha. I really like using this especially at night because it really calms and relaxes me for bed. It doesn't foam but cleansing power is good. It is actually quite moisturising too. The best of all is that it does not irritate my skin as much as many other shower washes because it is formulated from natural ingredients. I have sensitive body/back so if the soap I use is too harsh, I will have a lot of red, itchy spots. This was sent to me for a no obligatory try out btw. 2. Etude House 10-in-1 Wonder Pore Freshener
This is my holy grail of the month. Might be my holy grail for my whole life as well. Remember I mentioned (a couple of times) I have been breaking out and nothing is making it better. I mean sometimes it gets better but sometimes, omg please don't talk about it. Opened this last month and my skin is getting better and better! I am so thankful something is working.I use this like a final cleansing step and it really lifts off any leftover impurities my make up remover/facial wash left out.
I wrote about Erude House wonder pore 7-in-1 (older version) in one of my favourites too. You can read if you are keen. They work quite similarly but I find this 10-in-1 version even better.
$32 (500 mL) @ Etude House stores
3. OST Original Pure C20 Vitamin C Serum
After all the outbreak, it is common to deal with dark spots/scarring. I find this serum helping in fading those unsightly spots. My skin plumps up and glows after using this for some time. The only drawback is that it can sting, especially if you have open wounds.$16, 30 mL from Qo10
4. Etude House Face Blur Base
Received this as a gift from my friend and I loveee it. The texture is light and not sticky for daily use. It brightens your skin slightly and helps to manage sebum production (doesn't control fully though). I use it under make up, I use it on its own. Basically, this is an everyday product. I've been wearing this with a bit of concealer on days I am conducting lessons or heading out to study. It is just so convenient to put on and remove.$27.50, 35g from Etude House stores
Didn't have a lot of products for Feb but I love all of them. See you guys in Mar's favourites!
Hi guys! It has been a really, really long time since I last sat down to pen something. As much as I want to, I can't. After all, I am not a full timer blogger. Now I can finally, well sort of, understand why many stopped even though it is something they enjoy doing.
Anyway, it has been nearly 3 months into 2016. Let me update a little about my life so far.
2016 has been pretty good and really packed. Still juggling between a few major things in life - school, work, lessons, friends
School
My last semester in University. Or proper education, that is if I do not further my studies. I am trying my best to absorb the last drop of knowledge from the lecturers. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy studying. It is stressful/tiring at times but learning is nonetheless, very fun.
And of course, I enjoyed my fair share of skipping lectures. I will definitely miss the 'flexibility'.
PS, we have online lectures!
Work
This is a new chapter for me. Opened it earlier but so far so good. I might share more about it in the future but I shall keep it offline for now.
Lessons
Nothing much changed. I wonder how long can I continue this for. I know I have to stop tutoring one day but let's not think about that for now. I am happy as long as they are doing well.
Friends
Practically hanged out with the usual few groups + other small pockets of people whenever I can. I feel extra grateful when I manage to spend time with them.
Sometimes I really want to reach out to certain friends first but it is just.. hard. Initiating contact is never easy for me and seeing how people slip away is not making things better. Important people I mean.
So that is why I count my blessing and give thanks every day - for the people who came and never left.
Nonetheless, I thought I should make it a point to reconnect with more friends this year. If not now, when?
Hahaha why does it feel a little emotional here ah?
**********
Okay what else...?
Nothing.
If you miss me, I am on Dayre (daily crazy moments). Find me @jjoyis! It is quiet there too ahaha.
Moving forward, I cannot promise I will update more but I promise to update a little everyday so that this space/my social media will not extinct.

Spicy Chicken Cubes ($16) |
The amount of chilli looks scary but it is actually not spicy. Quite shiok to have with plain rice!
The dish is so red! |
Mouth-watering Chicken ($7.30) |
Again this is less spicy than the way it looks. The chicken is the yellow skin chicken (my favourite) hence it is very tender with less fatty skin ^^. However, this dish is served cold - I believe this is the way the locals consume it. I still prefer my meat with some sort of temperature.
Spicy Fragrant Conch ($14.90) |
One of the more popular dishes from Chong Qing Grilled Fish, spicy fragrant conch.
First time trying this and it is actually pretty good. I just find it quite troublesome to dig the flesh out from the shell with a toothpick.
Fragrant Smoked Pork with Mushroom ($16) |
Smoked pork that tasted quite like bacon. Comes with some stir fry veg and mushrooms.
Offal Slices ($8.30) |
"One man's trash is another man's treasure"
This is more exotic to many. Offal slices are internal organs of an animal. I believe the innards come from cows.
Chinese Spinach With Salted & Century Egg ($11.60) |
I am a veg person. And this is totally my dish. Spinach drowned in salted egg yolk sauce.
Close up |
String Beans with Minced Meat and Dried Chilli ($11.70) |
CQGF done their String beans/French beans/Long beans well. I cannot differentiate them hmm. Anyway, everything should be stir fry in fragrant garlic hahaa. The beans remained crunchy after all the cooking. Can try if you are eating there.
What is Chong Qing Grilled Fish without grilled fish right?
You can choose between Sea Bass ($32/$38) or Grass Crap ($48) cooked in three different sauces.
Spicy Numbing Sea Bass Grilled Fish |
This is like mala Xiang Guo but more on the Ma (numbness) side. My tongue literally seized up hahaha. It was a weird experience haa!
Pickled Cabbage Sea Bass Grilled Fish |
Pickled cabbage sauce is meant to cater for non-spicy eaters.
Hot & Sour Sea Bass Grilled Fish |
Love this sauce the most! The bomb with rice. I especially enjoyed the sides they added in (mushrooms etc) because the flavours basically seeped in.
I think I can have 2 bowls of rice (now) drizzled with the yummy sauce. The serving is great for 2-3 pax so order to share ok! There is in fact another additional perk - Startaster delivers them to the comfort of your own home!! Let me talk a little bit more after I finish all the food intro. :)
Fish in general was crispy but it can blend better with the sauce. The fish has that freshwater fish taste though; albeit not obvious when dipped in the sauces.
Next up is also my favourite kind of meal - steamboat.
So easy and so yummy.
STEAMBOAT! |
Happy pot comes in two soup bases to satisfy both Mala lover and non-spicy eaters. This is a steamboat buffet spread so you can order as much as you want for $22.90 (per pax)
Lots of condiments |
They have a lot of condiments for you to mix and match, like HDL!
I really like this concept.
What we had |
Lot of mushrooms and I love mushrooms!!
Already craving for steamboat (MALA ANY TIME)
Yuan Yang Steamboat |
PS THE STEAMBOAT IS NOT FOR DELIVERY
Their food leans towards the numbing side so if you are a big fan of such... Taste? Sensation? You know where to consider.
and it's a place for supper too! |

Wild hair colors are so in trend right now. They are very pretty but more often than not, the colors do not last very long before they turn into some nasty brown, well unless you bleached your hair.
It is the same for me. I am fairly new to hair dyeing. I just wish to share with you what I did so far to prolong my hair color. Maintaining your red/purple/bright hair color is actually not as difficult as I thought it will be.
Hot/warm water will open up the cuticles of your hair strands. Thus, you can lose your color pigments more easily. To reduce the amount of colored particles washing off, use cold water when you are rinsing, both before and after shampoo/conditioner. Plus, cold water can close the cuticles and this will make your hair appear more shiny and smooth.
Can't find a more accurate representation but it is just a normal plastic container many people have in their bathroom. Mine is around the size of the darkest blue portion.

It has been a while since I spammed so many selfies on this space. Even my Instagram now is flooded with food pics hahaa.

Tips to protect your hair color |
Sorry all the photos from that day are so blur! :( I tried
You probably have heard about the 8 tips I am going to share with you. They are nothing new and there is most likely a lot more well-written articles out there for your reference. However, I will include how I do it as well as what products I am using for you to have a better idea as this is the two biggest questions I have in many posts I have come across. Hence, I hope I can address them all at once.
Please note that everything mentioned here is solely done to prevent your hair color from fading so quickly, not to treat chemically-damaged hair. I will talk about treating damaged hair next time.
1. Don't wash your hair for 48(2days) hours after your dye
The longer you leave the fresh dye on your hair, the more lasting the color will be. I left it for a day before washing because I really cannot stand how dirty my hair feels. If you are not able to follow the stylist's recommendation (i.e. 48h), I think you should at least try to go a day without shampooing. The salon probably did a good job cleaning your hair so don't worry~
2. Temperature is important
3. Less washes = More color
This is rather commonsensical right? The more frequent you wash your hair, the faster the colour molecules wash out. I do it minimally, around once every two days.
4. Less water = More color
Here is yet another less-more formulae. Number of washes are easily tracked but amount of water used? Not so easy to take note. How I do it is I will fill a normal plastic container to wet my hair and scalp. Then I will apply my conditioner, massage it into my hair for a bit before using some shampoo to get rid of the junk or oil on my scalp.
I will use another 3/4 - full container of water to rinse out the hair products. Start from the top of your head and rub the back of your scalp/rest of your hair when the water flow through. This is how I wash my hair with ONE container of water. Seems impossible but it is actually quite alright. Just make sure you remove everything!

5. Shampoo only your scalp
You do not need a palmful of shampoo for your hair. Shampoos usually have better cleansing power than conditioners/treatments. Thus, using it on your hair ends will strip the color off more quickly than expected.
Squeeze around 20-cent coin size of product in the centre of your palm, add water and lather it up. This will reduce the amount of shampoo you need. Plus, foams are less harsh to your scalp and hair. The additional air incorporated will help to clean more efficiently.
Remember, try to limit the cleaning to your scalp area (the only alive part) only. The stock photo is a bad demonstration lol.

6. Go easy on treatment products
Color protecting treatments/conditioners are 'anti-color loss'; that means they prevent, not stop. They will inevitably strip away some coloured pigments as they wash out. I am not asking you to skip treating your hair completely (because hair dyeing is a very damaging process) but use less of it.
I will use a pea-size color care conditioner and mix in a tiny amount of any deep treatment to nourish my hair. I typically leave them on for around 1-2 mins before rinsing.
7. Use color care products
Any brands that work for you is fine. Colour care products are tailored for chemically dyed hair so it will help slow down the fading process. I am using L'oreal sulfate-free color care shampoo and conditioner. Mentioned both of them in my favourites before so click their respective links to find out more if you are keen.
8. Dry shampoo is your new best friend
To be honest I am not a fan of dry shampoos at all. However, since I only wash my hair once every two days, I have to freshen up before I sleep/head out.
I am using the one from Batiste (Fresh). This is my first bottle so I don't think I have tried enough to comment much. The smell is pretty good though. One important thing when using dry shampoo is that you have to rub the product out if not it will look like you have disgusting dandruff (big pieces of them!). Speaking from experience :o

These are what I did for my purple hair.
It lasted me for a week or so before fading to a really nice purple red > bright red > red > brown red.

One more! |
Reddish Brown |
Brownish red |
It has been a while since I spammed so many selfies on this space. Even my Instagram now is flooded with food pics hahaa.
I thought the result is not too bad (correct me if I am wrong) thus this post. I literally went from bright red > brown red in 3-4 days for my previous hair color because I was too lazy to care. My purple didn't last very long but it's a good experience.
Should you have any tips or tricks, please share them here with me!!
Anyway hope you find this helpful :)
PS, the points mentioned should work for bleached hair/granny hair color (the trend now yo~) but don't hold me responsible if they don't ok :p
I actually wanted to start drafting about Montana Brew Bar when Michelle extended the invite to me. What a coincidence!
My previous experience was good so I decided to go back again to try the dishes I have not tried during my previous visit. I will include my personal trip to Montana at the end of the post.
If you do a quick search on the Internet, you will see it saturated with good reviews of this place. Is it worth all the hype? Yes. Montana Brew Bar is led by a team of very passionate individuals. They are constantly experimenting and very willing to listen to customers' feedback. Feel free to tell them how you feel after trying!
Let me start with the drinks we have tasted that night.
The drink menu is not extensive but interesting. The team has come up with possibly the first cold brew coffee with coconut water.
Yuzu is a new flavour to have in the coffee. It is refreshing and I believe it will win many hearts.
This is the drink I ordered because I thought Gula Melaka will be sweet. However, Gula Melaka in coffee doesn't do any of that. Instead, it made the coffee sharper and more acidic. The caramel/toasted nuts is not obvious to my tongue.
If you like your coffee stronger, this might be your new obsession.
In a conical flask. I mean, how cute is that?! Sorry I find things like test tube/conical flasks cute.
The coffee is surprisingly smooth and it leaves a sweet after-taste. This is my favourite cold brew out of all we have sampled.
Montana serves a wide selection of waffles for you to choose from. They offer both sweet and savoury waffles. Now it is already hard enough to find savoury waffles, and even harder to find good ones. Glad I managed to try a couple of good dishes here.
Bulgogi waffles were first bake then pan-fried to crispiness. The fragrant fried flavour makes this dish very unique. Fret not, it is not oily at all.
The team reformulated the waffle blend and soggy waffles is something in the past. Can you imagine the waffles are still crispy and tasty after all the food photographing hahaa. The beef was cooked to tenderness and it worked really well with the waffle and the poached egg.
This is basically my favourite savoury dish. Must try!
Western food with a local touch. Well, not exactly Singapore-local but close enough! I know it sounds a little too innovative (aka weird) but the assam and crab went exceptionally well with Montana's waffles. It is good on its own or with the special gula melaka mayo sauce.
This is one of the more popular dishes they serve.
I actually tried this before and the chicken/salad was really spicy. However, this time round it is alright. The chicken is tender and juicy. Fried chicken waffles was quite good but it was outshone by the two more popular dishes.
This is actually a very interesting combination. You will smell the delightful scent of truffle oil even before seeing this on the table. Jalapeño Mac & Cheese waffles is two comfort food in one. And when Montana says Mac & Cheese, you get REAL Mac & Cheese in the batter.
Al-dente spaghetti pasta infused with spicy sauce/dressing. There is also a generous amount of sautéed bacon stirred into the pasta. I find the spiciness alright but some people may find it overwhelming. If you are have certain level of tolerance to spicy food, do give this a try.
We ended our night with two desserts, to be exact, two sweet waffles.
Don't misunderstand, this is not your typical black charcoal waffles. Black Velvet Waffles is made of black sesame. The black sesame gives a very subtle burnt, nutty taste. However, the taste is covered it is taken with the match (green tea) ice cream.
PS, you can choose to have fluffy or crispy waffles for this! I thought it is quite a nice idea.
The texture of the red velvet waffles is satisfactory, what's new? :) Coupled with strawberry shortcake ice-cream, this is one good dessert to have to end a meal. I am known to be anti-strawberry but I managed to wolf down quite a bit of strawberry shortcake ice-cream because.. it tasted so good.
What I loved most is the aromatic rose flavour that greeted me. I am quite a big fan of rose/rose flavoured food and scent (Chloe!) so this stole my heart. Highly recommend everyone to give this a try.
Menu for reference!
Though this is cream-based, it is still very light to me. The egg is a tad out of shape but the taste/overall is not too bad. In fact, I like this dish the most out of everything we have ordered on my personal trip. It may feel a little oily near the end of the meal.
Quite good, especially the fact that the pesto sauce is made from scratch. Not many places do that. But I figure I am not a pesto person; the flavour did not resonate with me that well.
As mentioned above.
We ordered Smoked Salmon Pasta as well but I don't know what happened to the photo. From what I can remember it was alright, nothing super exciting about this cream-based pasta. That being said, nothing too bad about it too.
PS: This is actually the third time I am writing this. I hope the write up is alright because I got bored repeating it 3 times.

The drink menu is not extensive but interesting. The team has come up with possibly the first cold brew coffee with coconut water.
Coconut Cold Brews |
Yuzu Coconut Cold Brew Coffee ($7.80)
Coconut cold brew with Yuzu and cream. Fruity with light floral fragrance, a soft mouthfeel and highlights the natural complexity of the coffee.
Yuzu is a new flavour to have in the coffee. It is refreshing and I believe it will win many hearts.
Gula Melaka Cold Brew Coffee ($6.80) Coconut cold brew with Gula Melaka. Lush notes of caramel, toasted nuts. |
This is the drink I ordered because I thought Gula Melaka will be sweet. However, Gula Melaka in coffee doesn't do any of that. Instead, it made the coffee sharper and more acidic. The caramel/toasted nuts is not obvious to my tongue.
Do you want a cup of this too? |
If you like your coffee stronger, this might be your new obsession.
Regular Coconut Cold Brew Coffee ($6.50) |
Coconut cold brew served with coconut ice sphere. Light sweetness with hint of coconut and a smooth soft finish.
In a conical flask. I mean, how cute is that?! Sorry I find things like test tube/conical flasks cute.
The coffee is surprisingly smooth and it leaves a sweet after-taste. This is my favourite cold brew out of all we have sampled.
How photogenic |

Best of the night |
This is basically my favourite savoury dish. Must try!
Assam Crab Waffles ($18) |
Inspired by the Kedah Laksa; waffles made with a specialty of 8 spices served with crab meat, pineapple cucumber salsa and assam gula melaka mayo
Southern Fried Chicken Waffles ($14) |
Southern-spiced fried chicken, tangy coleslaw served with corn salsa
I actually tried this before and the chicken/salad was really spicy. However, this time round it is alright. The chicken is tender and juicy. Fried chicken waffles was quite good but it was outshone by the two more popular dishes.
Jalapeno Mac & Cheese Waffles ($12.50) |
The original signature that started their waffle project - waffle-used jalapeño Mac & Cheese, truffle oil, tomato relish
This is actually a very interesting combination. You will smell the delightful scent of truffle oil even before seeing this on the table. Jalapeño Mac & Cheese waffles is two comfort food in one. And when Montana says Mac & Cheese, you get REAL Mac & Cheese in the batter.
Spicy Bacon Pasta ($14) |
Sauteed bacon, bacon bits, peas
Al-dente spaghetti pasta infused with spicy sauce/dressing. There is also a generous amount of sautéed bacon stirred into the pasta. I find the spiciness alright but some people may find it overwhelming. If you are have certain level of tolerance to spicy food, do give this a try.
