nivea pearl white micellar water review

Nivea Pearl White Micellar Water

What: Micellar cleansing water (makeup remover)
Suitable for: All skin types, dull/sensitive skin
Scent: slight alcohol scent
Size:  200mL
Price: -
Where to buy: Leading supermarkets, drugstores (Watsons, Guardian, Sasa..), Online (Lazada, Qoo10, Shopee..)

Ingredients:

nivea pearl white micellar water review ingredient

Promises

nivea pearl white micellar water review

Effective yet gentle makeup remover
Leaves no residue or product
Free from paraben, alcohol, fragrance, silicone & colourant
Brighter, smoother & softer skin after use

Packaging

In a transparent pour bottle for easy view of the amount left. Still prefer my pump bottle. This does not have a refill packaging option. I hope all companies can really consider having refill packs to cut down on plastic consumption.

Scent

No/faint alcoholic scent.

Texture/Consistency

Liquid, very much like water. It is very runny so do note to use a bigger cotton pad to catch all the product.

Test/Swatch

Tested on a full (swatch) of makeup again. Trying to keep to roughly the same products that I have used previously so that you can have a comparison. Read my reviews on the other micellar waters I have tried recently: Botanics Hydration Burst Micellar Cleansing Water, Biore Perfect Micellar Cleansing Water (Anti Acne).

From left to right:

Eyebrow - K-Palette Real Lasting Eyebrow
Eyeliner -   L'oreal Superliner
BB cream - Nature Republic Eco BB Cream
Concealer - Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer
Blush - TheFaceShop Single Powder Blush
Lips - Kylie Matte Liquid Lipstick
Mascara - Heroine Make Long&Curl Waterproof Mascara

After 1 swipe
You can still see leftover of most of the products... one simple wipe is not enough to remove your make up girls.

After multiple swipes
Most of the makeup came off with little effort (even the super lasting matte lipstick). Only some of Heroine Make's mascara was left. Not too bad for micellar water really.

The amount of products removed.
Doesn't take much tugging and effort. Despite being a gentle makeup cleanser, it is very effective and cleans well.

Aftermath

I really don't feel anything after using this product for removal (no stickiness, hydrating, or moisturising etc feeling). It just feels like how fresh skin feels. Despite so, I will still wash with a facial cleanser afterwards.

Ingredients

Formulated to be suitable for sensitive skin and the ingredients used were aligned to it. It is free from any potential irritant so it should really work for all skin types.

Brighter, smoother, softer skin?

Honestly, I am not expecting anything for a product that has a contact time of <5 minutes with my skin. (Will be more worried if my skin really look brighter, smoother and softer after 1 use).

Standing at a size of 200mL and a price of $10.90 (it is often on sale, look out for that!), I think Nivea Pearl White Micellair Water provides more value than what you paid for. It works great for light to medium makeup but you probably have to opt for an oil-based remover to get any waterproof eye makeup off. It does not have any funky scent and leaves my skin feeling great after that. Most importantly, it cleans rather well without much effort.

Pros:

- No/little scent
- Suitable for even sensitive skins
- Great ingredient list
- Affordable
- Good removal power
- No stickiness/pain on the skin after removal

Cons:

- Does not work very well with waterproof eye makeup
- Packaging

Removal power: 4.5/5

Packaging: 3.5/5
Scent: 4.5/5
Consistency: 4.5/5
Value-for-money: 5/5

Thank you!
If you are thinking to embark on a yoga teacher training (YTT) course overseas, there must be tons of queries going through your mind right now.

And you will probably get a billion other questions from everyone around you. Like many others, you might probably be wondering,

"Where should I go?
Why would I want to go all the way outside my country for a month just to learn yoga?
What is the purpose of learning yoga?
Why not take the course in Singapore?
Is it safe for a lady to travel alone, to India, for one month?
Which school should I attend?"

These questions were constantly thrown at me before I sent my application for the course, and even so after I came back.
Hence, I thought it will be easier for me to write it down so that I can simply refer anyone who asked to this post! :D

ekam yogashala, YTT india, yoga teacher training, yoga teacher, yoga school, rishikesh

I came back from a 200-hour YTT programme in Rishikesh, India, July 2019. This was by far one of the best decisions I've made in my life. Even there were things I wish I could have prepared better for, I have no regrets. The experience was invaluable and irreplaceable.

I am a novice in yoga, am I suitable?

Hi there, I am too. I ambitiously (or recklessly) decided to be a certified yoga teacher after less than a year's practice. I was first exposed to yoga when I was around eighteen but I stopped practice for 3 years after that. I mainly focused on cardio and strength training exercises before, with (very) occasional yoga practices as and when I felt like it. I only started being more regular with my practice 3-4 months before the trip. That was the period when I was grappling through a stressful and uncertain phase in life.

I turned to yoga as a way to help me destress then and it unexpectedly did much more than that.

It can help me realign to the present moment and temporarily leave the daily grind behind. I find myself calmer after each session; my body less tight up and my mind much clearer. It is truly my safety harbour.

Misconceptions of yoga

People always associate yoga with just the asanas (yoga postures). However, it goes beyond. It involves your whole life -  from very basic things, like the way that you sit, stand, walk and sleep, to spiritual aspects such as mental focus, awareness, self-acceptance, and self-control.
Many yoga studios now have Western influences which emphasises more on the asanas. This does not allow you to reap the full benefits of yoga. Yoga is really something more than what meets the eye.

Why India? Why overseas?

There are several reasons for this decision.

1) As the saying goes: If you want to know how to play with the rules, you must first learn and understand the rules. If I want to adapt or even create my own yoga style in the future, I must first properly learn the fundamentals and understand the risks and benefits of each yoga pose before I can teach anyone else. I am not saying that the yoga studios in Singapore do not teach the traditional form of yoga in their YTT but I simply would like to learn and embrace it from its original birthplace (which is India). This would certainly give me a more authentic experience and ultimately hope to bring these teachings back to Singapore.

2) Another key consideration was that it was about thrice the price and thrice the time needed if I were to complete the YTT programme in Singapore. YTT in Singapore is only held on weekends (for those that i saw)  and I have to work on weekends. At the same time,  I wanted to complete the course as soon as possible.

3) As you know, yoga is all about spirituality. If I chose to stay in Singapore, I will be too overwhelmed with other commitments that I will not be able to focus on practice. This certainly will affect how much I can experience and takeaway from this YTT programme.

I wanted to be away from all these distractions so that I can truly experience the meaning of yoga. I wanted to have space to reflect, discover and improve. I wanted to find out more about myself - aspects I have never known before, my strength and weaknesses, and to enrich myself with experiences that I would certainly not get if I stayed in Singapore.

3) It was the perfect timing before I begin my full time working life. This was the time I did not have to worry about my career yet (i.e. one less distraction to my practice). It was also to help me set my mind right for my upcoming job. I did not want to enter the workforce to simply get the paycheck at the end of every month. I wanted closure - a closure to the many years of being a student in my life.

4) People who joined the programme comes from worldwide, and nationwide. I will get to meet people from all around the world. I have never actually interacted, or even so made friends, with anyone from other countries (except Malaysians). This was a great opportunity for me to learn more about people from other cultures and continents.

5) Lastly, it is OVERSEAS. I have got the chance to visit and explore new parts of the world alongside the programme. If you do not know, India is full of hidden gems and surprises. It is a country so beautiful and rich in its own rituals, traditions, and history. I get to travel too so why not

Thinking of all these benefits and takeaways, I was really excited to take my YTT overseas to learn and experience something new!

Which yoga school?

ekam yogashala, india yoga teacher training school, YTT, rishikesh, yoga teacher, yoga school
I went to Ekam Yogashala in June 2019. Considerations that went into choosing this school mainly boiled down to the timing, price, history, and their school curriculum and schedule.

1) Timing
The starting and ending time of the course fits perfectly into my schedule, which was one of the major deciding factors.

2) Price
It was one of the cheapest schools that I can find. The price also includes proper residences, the curriculum, three proper meals per day and weekly excursions.

3) Review
I compared several yoga schools in Rishikesh, looking at their curriculum and most importantly read up on personal experiences and reviews from those who had previously attended YTT in ekam. Most of the reviews were positive. In fact, the more I read up on their experiences, the more excited I got!

4) School curriculum
Unlike many other schools, the course curriculum involved more comprehensive teaching of yoga forms, including pranayamas, mantra chantings, human anatomy, meditation, history and philosophy of yoga, etc). It also teaches Hatha yoga, the basic style of yoga asanas - all other styles are modern yoga adapted from Hatha yoga.

It is also a Yoga Alliance USA fully accredited yoga teacher training school. Getting registered with the Yoga Alliance USA makes you eligible to teach yoga anywhere.

5) Experience
This school welcomes students with no prior experiences in yoga, although recommended to have. This was a crucial deciding factor because this meant that the curriculum would be more catered to the beginner level. Many other schools that I came across accept only practitioners with some minimum time in their yoga practices.

With barely much experience and knowledge in yoga, this was important. A curriculum that is too advanced might be too challenging for me to transit and be on par with others in the programme.

These were some deliberations I had when I was choosing the school to engage with.

The decision to embark on this journey overseas wasn't easy, and there were many issues I have to think about and prepare for. It is not as simple as going overseas for one month on my own, it extends to going to a country that treats females relatively less respectfully. Having said so, it is certainly not as bad as what the media had put it. Rishikesh has literally tourists from all around the globe everywhere, and I felt relatively safe when I was there. It will definitely not be a month living in comfort, but this was also what I wanted to put myself through. And so I did.

I hope by sharing these would help some of you somehow. Perhaps I would share more about my journey in the future? I know this post came way looonggeeerrrr.... than it should be.

I certaintly did not regret making the decision to go ahead even though people around me weren't that supportive of the idea, even when i am back safe and sound. Wherever you are, if you are thinking about doing your YTT in India, I hope you really think through and make a decision that you won't regret.

There are 6 types of rooms available in Fraser Place Puteri Harbour - Deluxe Twin, Deluxe Studio, Studio Premier, 1-, 2- and 3-bedrooms apartments.

Sea facing units are available at a small top up if you wish to enjoy a better view.

The smallest unit stands at 34 square metres.

Location

A close drive to Tuas Second Link Checkpoint, Fraser Place Puteri Harbour is not as densely populated as in Johor Bahru Center.

There aren't many things around the vicinity - Puteri Harbour, Hello Kitty town (permanently closed), Legoland. There are many developing residential areas.
The closest (proper) mall is Aeon Tebaru City.

It is a nice place away from the hustle and bustle but some people can also find it boring.

Facilities

Fraser Place Puteri Harbour has a Spa (with steam & sauna room), sheltered swimming pool & whirlpool, yoga room and a 24-h gym.

Basic equipments are available in the gym. I didn't see the yoga room though.

I read on their website that there's scheduled shuttle service to bring guests to Senai Airport, LEGOLAND and even popular shopping malls but I did not have the chance to explore/use this service.

My main mode of transportation was via Grab.

Deluxe Studio Room

You can connect to your device via Bluetooth to listen to music, tune in to the radio, use it as a clock/alarm clock and charge your electronics via USB port. I really like something like this but I can't seem to find it around in Singapore. Let me know if you know where to get it!

One of the lights isn't working but it doesn't really affect my experience there. Speaking of lights, I have to say they have so many switches. Had a hard time figuring out which is for which haha.

Breakfast

International spread with local options like porridge, noodles, vegetables etc. There are live stations for soup noodles and eggs. I like their omelette with cheese better.

You can also make your own healthy juice or waffles. Waffle station is quite popular so be prepared to wait.

One thing I want to point out is the quality of food. It is really not the best here. For example, there is a mixture of different types of vegetables (choy sum, Brussel sprouts etc) in the stir-fry vegetable dish. Granted, they may be freshly made but the act of combining they all together gives off the impression that these are 'leftover'. Many hotels tend to do this with their breakfasts and I hope this can be improved.

Not wasting food is a good thing but I believe there are better ways to provide decent standards to your guests too.

Dining

You can dine at Puteri Harbour restaurant. They serve Western, Chinese and local cuisines all-day till 11 pm.
There is a supermart around the hotel but we did not visit during our stay. Got most of our snacks/supplies at a convenience store opposite the hotel.

We dined at this place called Tribus (a short walk from Fraser place) twice because we really enjoyed the food and service there.

It has a very cool Mexican vibe coupled with great music. Food was enjoyable but I am hoping for more consistency. Nonetheless, I will still head back again if I am around the vicinity.

Service

Service was within expectations from a 5-star hotel.

All in all, Fraser Place Puteri Harbour can cater for business travellers, couples or larger families. It is a close drive from Tuas Second Link. Don't expect to have a lot of things to do around (City center will be a better option if you're looking at that) but many places such as LEGOLAND and AEON shopping malls are a short drive away. If you are looking for some quiet time, this is a good place for you to consider in Johor Bahru.

The room is clean and I appreciate the additional details and comfort available. I will come back again and spend some time in the pool. (Level 17 if I remember correctly).

YangSooBin Peach Cushion Tint (Peach)

What: Lip tint
Colour: 02 Delicious Pink
Finish: Glossy/Matte
Scent: Faint sweet scent
Size: 5 g
Made in: Korea
Price: ~$12 (290B)
Where to get: Playground, Big C Pratunam

Colours available:
Strawberry (red), Orange (orange), Peach (Pink)

Swatch

Packaging

Sponge tip applicator and you have to press the product out like a clicker-pen.

Colour options

Credit: Website

Only 3 for selection (red, orange and pink tones).

Chose the one in bright pink just because I have too many orangey/red shades. I didn't like how the pink turns out for me. To be fair, this colour will probably look great on lighter skin tone. It is for cool skin tone. Should have opted for the other two shades instead. Nothing wrong with the colour; it just doesn't suit me.

On lips

Lasting power is alright, not something that stays put after drinking/eating. You still have to touch up after food. Average stain power. I feel this is pretty similar to oil-in-tint as you will have a layer of 'gloss/oil' sitting on your lips after application. Give it some time and once it is fully absorbed, your lips will feel soft and moisturised. If you don't like that, don't press too much product out at once.

Moisturing

Pretty moisturising, that is you can apply throughout the day without having to worry about your lips drying out. This cushion tint does not accentuate fine lines too.

However, if you have peeling lips, don't use this as it can emphasise the dead skin.

Pigmentation

More sheer/natural. It gives my natural lip colour a pop of colour and health. Despite the sheerness of this lip tint, it can cover my original lip colour well.

Taste

Nothing unpleasant.

Smell

Really sweet-smelling yet not too overpowering. If you are not so sure about scented products, you may want to give this a miss.

Application

There's no need for much effort and as the colour is rather sheer, you don't have to worry about drawing out of your lips. Can use to touch up lips easily even without a mirror. Good for days when you want to go very natural looking.

You can press the button at the top to release more product.

Removal

Easy to remove even with micellar water.

Overall

This is an oil-in-tint formula, so expect to feel that layer of oil on your lips after application. It is not shiny like you didn't wipe your mouth after a meal, don't worry. In fact, I really like how moisturising it is. After a while, the oil will be absorbed. Great for people looking for something natural (especially after it fades). I don't reach out to it as often as I like to and the main reason is the colour I bought.
Fair skin ladies - you may consider this! I feel the orange one suits fairer skin tone as well.

Pros:
- Moisturising
- Affordably priced
- Easy to remove
- Convenient to touch up with this

Cons:
- Average lasting power
- Limited colour options
- Oil takes some time to be absorbed

Lasting power: 2/5
Moisturising level: 4/5
Colour option: 2/5
Colour payoff: 4/5
Value-for-money: 4/5

Rating: 8/10
Will consider repurchasing in other colour

Sometimes I wonder if all the steps taught in the skincare/make up routine necessary?
Some are clear cut, for example, the sunblock, but for others like the primer... is it really necessary?

Tested a primer from Colorpop recently. Colorpop is known for its massive collection of lipsticks and eyeshadow colours at affordable prices.

Colorpop Lip Stix

What: Lip Primer

Functions: Smudgeproof & Anti-feathering
Colour: Nil/transparent
Smell:  Vanilla
Size: 1g
Price: $6 USD

Ingredients

Isododecane, polyethylene, glyceryl hydrogenated rosinate, pentaerythrityl tetraisostearate, isononyl isononanoate, polymethylsilsesquioxane, microcrystalline wax, zeolite, silica, ethyl vanillin, flavour, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), mangifera indica (mango) seed butter, allantoin, glycerin, tocopherol, persea gratissima (avocado) oil, hydrogenated vegetable oil, glycine soja (soybean) oil, c12-16 alcohol, hydrogenated lecithin, palmitic acid, betaine, momordica grosvenori fruit extract.

Promises

It enhances the wear of any lip product and keeps your lips looking and feeling healthy! Being smudge-proof & anti-feathering, it fills in fine lines for a smooth application and longer wear time.

Packaging

colourpop lippie stix, primer, colourpop lip primer, colourpop primer, colourpop lippie stix primer

Long slim twist-up tube. No issues with the packaging/mechanism. Some lip products were ‘stuck’ when I twisted out up to take a look.

Amount of product

Quite a lot of product for the price paid.

Colour

Transparent, or nil. You really can’t tell when I put this on. Makes a good base to layer on the second lip product.

On Lips

You can feel there's something on your lips but it is not sticky or uncomfortable.

Swatch/Test

This is my natural lip colour and condition.

Tested it out with Kylie Liquid Matte Lipstick.

Honestly, I can't bring myself to even use Kylie Liquid Matte Lipstick. It is well-loved by many but it just can't work for me (as you can already tell).

With the lip primer on, it certainly looks better but still not great enough for me to wear out.
Wanting to give this primer another chance, I tested this with another lip product.

This is how it looks like for Nars Matte Lip Crayon

Less obvious lip lines but the rest are more or less the same. It makes lip colour look more 'matte'.

Lasting

Not very noticeable.

Anti-feathering, Anti-smudging

Not that I noticed.

Overall

Does Colorpop Lip primer work? Yes to a certain extent. When you apply a lip primer before lipstick, it feels like you are gliding on a smooth canvas. Liplines are not as obvious and the colour becomes more vibrant.

I will keep this for special occasions. I find it too bothersome to add one more thing in my routine for minimal effect.

A lot of lip primers are more pricey but I really don't feel the need to pay such a price for something with such low mileage. Hence, I feel this is great for people who are exploring lip primers and don't wish to pay so much for it. CP checked.

Pros:

- Smooth & velvety texture
- Colourless
- Reduce the appearance of liplines
- Value for money

Cons:

- Touching up of lipstick still required

On lips: 3.5/5
Lasting effect: 2/5
Colour enhancement: 2/5
Blurring liplines: 4/5
Value-for-money: 5/5

Rating:
Will repurchase until I find a replacement
